HOUSTON – Rose Namajunas appeared evenly matched on the feet in the early portion of her UFC 192 bout against Angela Hill.
But once it went to the ground the quality of Namajunas’ game was proven superior as she finished the fight with a first round rear-naked choke.
The women’s strawweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 192 event at Toyota Center in Houston. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view.
After early moments of Round 1 saw the two fighters trading on the feet punctuated by a heavy leg kick by Hill (2-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC), Namajunas (3-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) secured a takedown. She quickly moved to the back as Hill desperately tried to work back to the feet and locked in a standing rear-naked choke that left Hill tapping at the air as she slipped into unconsciousness.
The end came at the 2:47 mark of Round 1.
Hill is now on a two-fight losing skid while “Thug Rose” snapped her own two-fight skid.
