Donn Davis is hopeful Aaron Pico will remain with the PFL for the foreseeable future.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Pico’s manager Ali Abdelaziz claims that Pico’s contract with the PFL had expired and is a free agent. While Abdelaziz believes the UFC would want him and PFL would happily retain him, he says that PFL will have matching rights should the UFC make an offer.
While stories have come out about the situation, Davis issued a brief response on Twitter, saying they have come to the table with a substantial offer and a promise of a championship fight.
“2025 hopefully brings less MMA noise and disinformation,” Davis said. “[PFL] has offered Pico title fight and major new contract … We love Aaron and look forward to him having big fights at PFL for the long term.”
Abdelaziz says that Pico was slated to fight Patricio Pitbull for the Bellator featherweight title this month in a co-promotional effort with RIZIN, but since the event was canceled, so was the fight and the contract.
Pitbull has been public about his frustrations with the PFL since the merger with Bellator in November 2023, hoping to be more active and asking for his promotional release multiple times.
