Drake and Conor McGregor have had a relationship over the years, but the former two-division champ isn’t the rap superstar’s favorite fighter.
The four-time Grammy winner recently did a holiday-themed live stream on his Kick channel and was asked who his favorite UFC fighter was, and eventually revealed that his all-time favorite fighter is none other than Nate Diaz — the man who handed McGregor his first UFC loss.
“OK, I’m going to answer this question strictly based on who, to me, you just can’t get more thorough than this guy,” Drake said. “I respect people where you are where you’re from and nothing else can change [that] — the money, the wins, nothing.
“So to me, it’s Nate. That’s my favorite fighter because Nate is just crazy, through and through [being from Stockton].”
Drake has been a combat sports fan for many years, and even joined McGregor during one of the stops on the press tour for his boxing match with Floyd Mayweather in 2017. The 38-year-old also has been known to gamble big dollar amounts on pivotal UFC matchups — even to the point where a cold streak created a mythical “Drake curse” in the betting circles.
At the end of the day, Drake is a fan of the fight game, and has immense respect for Nate and his older brother Nick Diaz.
“Of course I have other favorite fighters,” Drake said. “I love Conor with all my heart. ...
“Nate’s going to be one of those people [where] Nate’s going to Nate. I respect the Diaz brothers. Shout out to them.”
