
UFC welterweight contenders Ian Machado Garry and Michael Morales traded online jabs regarding the state of the division’s title picture.
After UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev won the title at UFC 322 to become a two-division titleholder, a ferocious debate is underway about the next title fight. Former UFC welterweight titleholder Kamaru Usman is potentially the frontrunner to oppose Makhachev in the champion’s first title defense.
But other top contenders such as Ian Machado Garry, Michael Morales, and Carlos Prates make intriguing cases for the next title shot. All three welterweights are coming off of impressive victories, with Morales and Prates earning stoppage wins at UFC 322.
The UFC matchmakers have their work cut out for them in deciding the next fights in the welterweight Top 10. In the meantime, Garry and Morales are trading barbs over how the division should be matchmaked.

In a recent post to his , Garry matchmaked Morales with one of his former foes.
“Everybody has an opinion on who should fight who in the welterweight division, here’s mine. Carlos Prates vs. Michael Morales, because it’s two power-heavy hitters, and I want to see who comes out on top,” Garry said of Morales.
“I doubt Morales would take it because the truth is, Carlos Prates hits harder.”
It didn’t take long for Morales to take notice of Garry’s remarks, as he replied in a recent story.
“Tell him to suck it and that the belt is mine!” Morales responded.
As of this writing, Garry hasn’t responded to Morales’ recent answer.
Garry hasn’t fought since defeating former titleholder Belal Muhammad at UFC Qatar last year. Meanwhile, Morales knocked out Sean Brady at UFC 322 to continue his unbeaten ascent up the welterweight ranks.
