John Fury reportedly won’t be in Tyson Fury’s corner for Oleksandr Usyk rematch

It appears Tyson Fury will not have a familiar face in his corner on Saturday.

Ahead of his heavyweight championship rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, Fury’s camp confirmed with DAZN that John Fury, Fury’s father, will not be in his son’s corner for the fight. During Wednesday’s open workout, Fury’s trainer SugarHill Steward confirmed Fury’s corner will not include his dad.

“The corner will be me, Andy Lee (the assistant trainer), and the cutman,” Steward said.

Ahead of their first meeting in May, John Fury found himself in an explosive situation as he head-butted a member of Usyk’s team, leaving himself bloodied in the process. Usyk went on to hand Fury his first pro loss in the bout in Saudi Arabia via split decision to become boxing’s undisputed heavyweight champion.

Fury seems hyper-focused on the task at hand, and appears to be limiting distractions as he trolled fans on Wednesday by not working out at open workouts, and then answered questions from one of the DAZN reporters by only speaking about the damage he plans to inflict upon Usyk, regardless of what was asked.

The rematch headlines an event at the site of the iconic first meeting, at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
