UFC legend Dustin Poirier believes Paddy Pimblett could struggle in his UFC 324 main event against Justin Gaethje.
This weekend, Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje will collide for the UFC interim lightweight championship. The winner is expected to go on and face Ilia Topuria for the undisputed crown, but given Ilia’s ongoing personal issues, it’s not yet clear as to what kind of timeline he’s working with regarding a return to the Octagon.

For now, the focus is on Pimblett vs Gaethje. While Justin has held the interim title before, Paddy is here for the first time, and he’s attempting to prove that he has what it takes to really mix it up with the elite of the division, and eventually book a blockbuster showdown with Topuria.
In a recent interview, Dustin Poirier gave his thoughts on how he believes Pimblett vs Gaethje could play out.
Poirier’s view on Pimblett vs Gaethje
“I just think (Gaethje) been in those 25-minute fights. He’s been in those dog fights before,” Poirier said on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” I think Paddy is going to have a tough time stopping him on the feet, and I don’t think Paddy is going to get him down, so he’s going to have to fight with him.
“Unless Paddy can keep it disciplined for 25 minutes, keep his distance, picks his shots, Justin is just a bigger puncher, and he’ll put himself in harms way to land one of those shots. It’s tough to stay away from for 25 minutes.”
“What number loss was that for Chandler in a row?” Poirier said. “I think Chandler might’ve showed up for a paycheck. I don’t know.”
Poirier added, “He’s definitely a legit fighter, a good fighter, but I haven’t seen him beat … if he beats Justin, I’m a believer then.”
