UFC 313 is starting to get fleshed out.
UFC 313 goes down on March 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and while the main event is yet to be determined, the third UFC pay-per-view event of the year did just pick up a big-time bantamweight contest when Chris Gutierrez takes on Jean Matsumoto. Marcel Dorff was first to report the news, which both fighters later confirmed on social media.
Making his UFC debut in 2018, Gutierrez won seven of his first nine bouts in the promotion, earning his way into the top 15 at bantamweight after defeating Frankie Edgar at UFC 281. But things have been up-and-down for Gutierrez since then, as he lost two of three bouts in 2023 to top-ranked fighters Pedro Munhoz and Song Yadong. Most recently, Gutierrez got back on the winning track with a unanimous decision victory over Quang Le at UFC Vegas 95 this past August.
Undefeated in his professional career at 16-0, the 25-year-old Matsumoto is one of the brightest rising prospects in the bantamweight division. Signed off of Contender Series in 2023, Matsumoto had an excellent debut year with the UFC in 2024, picking up wins over Dan Argueta and Brad Katona to announce himself as a serious player at 135 pounds.
