UFC on ESPN 58 post-event facts: Prelim fighter scores ultra-rare finish

UFC on ESPN 58 took place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and it was a forgettable night of action with four finishes out of 11 fights.

One of those stoppages came in the main event – albeit due to an injury. Tatsuro Taira (16-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) picked up a second-round TKO of Alex Perez (24-9 MMA, 6-5 UFC) to stay undefeated following a knee injury to the former title challenger off a takedown attempt.

Event stats

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $116,000.

Debuting fighters went 0-2 at the event.

Taira, Brady Hiestand, Gabriella Fernandes and Carli Judice earned $50,000 UFC on ESPN 58 fight-night bonuses.

The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC on ESPN 58, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate.

Betting favorites went 7-4 on the card.

Betting favorites improved to 14-6 in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 11-bout card was 2:18:30.

Tatsuro Taira def. Alex Perez

Taira’s 16-fight MMA winning streak is tied with Asu Almabayev for the longest among active fighters in the UFC flyweight division.

Taira’s five-fight UFC winning streak at flyweight is the third-longest active streak in the division behind Alexandre Pantoja (six) and Muhammad Mokaev (six).

Taira has earned 12 of his 16 career victories by stoppage.

Perez has suffered four of his five UFC losses by stoppage.

Miles Johns def. Douglas Silva de Andrade

Miles Johns (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) has earned four of his six UFC victories by decision.

Douglas Silva de Andrade (29-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) fell to 7-6 in his past 13 fights after starting his career on a 23-fight unbeaten streak.

Lucas Almeida def. Timmy Cuamba

Lucas Almeida (15-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) earned the first decision victory of his career.

Timmy Cuamba (8-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) has suffered two of his three career losses by decision.

Brady Hiestand def. Garrett Armfield

Hiestand (8-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has earned six of his eight career victories by stoppage.

Garrett Armfield (10-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has suffered all three of his career stoppage losses by submission.

Asu Almabayev def. Jose Johnson

Abu Almabayev (20-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) has earned two of his three UFC victories by decision.

Almabayev’s 16-fight MMA winning streak is tied with Taira for the longest among active fighters in the UFC flyweight division.

Jose Johnson (16-9 MMA, 1-2 UFC) was unsuccessful in UFC flyweight debut.

Adam Fugitt def. Josh Quinlan

Adam Fugitt (10-4. MMA, 2-2 UFC) earned his first decision victory since March 11, 2017 – a span of 2,653 days and 12 fights.

Josh Quinlan (6-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) has suffered three consecutive losses after starting his career on a seven-fight unbeaten streak.

Quinlan has suffered two of his three career losses by decision.

Nate Maness def. Jimmy Flick

Nate Maness (16-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) improved to 2-1 since he moved down to the UFC flyweight division in November 2022.

Westin Wilson def. Jeka Saragih

Westin Wilson (17-9 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has earned all 17 of his career victories by stoppage.

Wilson earned just the 12th triangle-armbar submission in UFC history.

Jeka Saragih (14-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has suffered all four of his career losses by stoppage.

Saragih has suffered three of his four career losses by submission.

Melquizael Costa def. Shayilan Nuerdanbieke

Shayilan Nuerdanbieke (39-12 MMA, 3-3 UFC) has suffered 10 of his 12 career losses by stoppage.

Josefine Knutsson def. Julia Polastri

Josefine Knutsson (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has earned seven of her eight career victories by decision.

Julia Polastri (12-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered all four of her losses by decision.
