This is the UFC Vegas 100 live blog for Gerald Meerschaert vs. Reinier de Ridder, the co-main event fight this Saturday at the UFC APEX.
A staple of the UFC’s middleweight division since 2016, Meerschaert holds the record for most submission wins and most finishes in divisional history with 11 and 12 respectively. Meerschaert’s penchant for finishes has also led to five Performance of the Night bonuses, a list “GM3” hopes to add to on Saturday by pulling off the upset win.
The former middleweight and light heavyweight champion of ONE Championship, de Ridder began his MMA career with sixteen straight wins before falling short to Anatoly Malykhin in 2022. A rematch 14 months later led to another defeat for de Ridder who then took a quick detour to UAE Warriors before signing with the UFC this year. Making his promotional debut, de Ridder wants to send a message to the rest of the middleweight division that he’s a serious player in the title picture.
