Dana White, UFC, boxing

Long before moving to Las Vegas to run the UFC, Dana White trained as a boxer in his hometown of Boston.

White has referenced his boxing training many times over the years. The topic most notably came up years ago, when he was briefly linked to a boxing grudge match with former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. That matchup regrettably never materialized, but it was enough to get many fans wondering how good White actually is at “The Sweet Science.”

Unfortunately, there has never been much in the way of footage of White boxing. However, there is some footage out there, and every once in a while, it resurfaces on social media.

One clip has been making the rounds again recently, and it shows White throwing hands with a couple of friends.

You can tell pretty easily that this is fairly playful sparring — especially because White and his training partners are only attacking the body. However, it’s enough to get a sense of what level the UFC boss was at in terms of skill.

While White clearly isn’t at a professional level, he shows some decent understanding of the fundamentals. In fact, many fight fans seemed to be impressed with his ability, giving positive feedback in the replies to Full Send MMA’s posts.

“Dana has better shot selection than half the [heavyweight] roster,” one fan stated.

“Dana showing some moves here,” another fan wrote.

One fan even referenced the scrapped boxing match with Ortiz.

“Dana was gonna box Tito lmfao. Would’ve been cinema.”

How do you think Dana White looks in this old sparring footage?
