Walsh, who went 44-9 as an amateur boxer, had only finished three opponents inside the first round as a professional, his first three bouts between 2021 and 2022.
UFC CEO Dana White dipped his toes in the boxing world by helping promote Walsh’s fight alongside the boxer’s promoter Tom Loefller, and airing the matches on UFC’s streaming platform UFC Fight Pass. White is now all-in on boxing with UFC’s parent company TKO partnering with Saudi Arabian combat sports promoter Turki Alalshikh.
“The model is proven to deliver the fights that the fans want to see,” White said at the time of the announcement. “The best will fight the best and the fighters will continue to move up the rankings and become world champions. We will continue to make announcements on where you can watch and all the rest of the details on the business as we get closer to the launch.”
