Dana White might actually be getting into boxing soon.
For the past several years, White has talked about moving into boxing, repeatedly claiming that he intended to “fix” the broken sport. All that talk hasn’t amounted to much, but that may finally be changing.
On Friday, White’s boss, Endeavor and TKO CEO Ari Emanuel joined The Pat McAfee Show where he revealed that TKO (the parent group over both WWE and the UFC) has begun a serious inquiry into moving to boxing.
“We’re starting to talk about boxing,” Emanuel said. “We’re kind of looking at that right now. I think you’ve got the Ali Act that hurt it. Hopefully, who knows what’s going to happen with the Ali Act. And then Dana has a plan for boxing. We’ll see.
“There’s a lot of work. A lot of wood that’s got to be chopped there, but we’re looking at it pretty seriously.”
The Ali Act is a piece of legislation that ensures a number of protections to boxers, namely that promoters must divulge revenue to fighters, limits the amount of time promoters can hold fighters under contract, and separates title belts and rankings from promoters. The Ali Act does not currently extend to MMA fighters and there’s been a concerted effort by the UFC to keep it that way, as it would fundamentally alter the way the promotion does business. In fact, some have suggested that White’s struggles to get into boxing stem primarily from the difference in how boxing operates due to the Ali Act.
Though White’s had a number of stop-starts in the sweet science, he recently struck up a relationship with boxer Callum Walsh, streaming his most recent fight via UFC Fight Pass. After that event, White promised a renewed effort to enter the boxing world “guns blazing” in 2025 and it seems like that is still the plan.
