Bunes on the fight’s key moment

Felipe Bunes def. Jose Johnson, UFC Fight Night 249 (via UFC)

“I’ve been at this for quite some time – 22 years in jiu-jitsu. I’m very patient. I just tried to be calm, patient, taking my time. I’ve tried to be aggressive before, but it’s not in me – not my nature. (I want to) wait and figure it out, and if the opponent does not give me the opportunity, I’ll create the opportunity. You’re always looking for something out there at that point. He gave me the arm and I was able to take advantage of it.”

Bunes on expectations

“Listen, I am not better than anybody. I don’t think I should have that mindset that I’m better than anyone. What I try to do is become better every day – become better as a fighter, become better as a person, become better as a dad. I’m here to prove to myself that I can be that person. I believe I’m really good and I can be the best, but in order for that to happen, if I’m supposed to, line them up and I will go through all of them to prove myself that I can be that person and the best.”

Bunes on what he wants next

Tim Elliott

“My manager told me that Tim Elliott would be someone to challenge, so I challenged him in the octagon. It’s somebody that would be a great fight. I think it would be an honor to fight him. … Hopefully Tim takes on the challenge.”
