William Gomis walked away with the victory Saturday in front of his home country crowd, though many viewers disagreed with the decision.

On the UFC Fight Night 243 main card, Gomis (13-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) defeated an aggressive Joanderson Brito (17-4-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) in their featherweight bout at Accor Arena in Paris (via X):

Brito was highly aggressive particularly in the first half of the fight. He winged punches with massive heat behind them as Gomis largely tried to avoid the blows. Brito nearly pulled off a successful guillotine choke but the end-of-first-round bell blocked it.

Brito continued his aggression in the second with his cardio holding up well. Gomis found success in Round 3, and ultimately it was enough to sway the judges’ scorecards in his favor.

The decision was debated online with the majority of fans and media scoring the fight 29-28 for Brito, according to MMA Decisions. At the time of publication, 10 of 13 media members submitted scorecards for Brito while 90 percent of fans also had it for the Brazilian.

Gomis maintains his perfect UFC resume that also includes wins over Jarno Errens, Francis Marshall, and Yanis Ghemmouri.

Brito, meanwhile, has a five-fight winning streak snapped.
