Jaime Munguia just took the second loss of his career under circumstances that no one saw coming.
At a boxing match in Tijuana, Mexico, Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) fell victim to heavy underdog Bruno Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs), with Surace dropping Munguia with a hard shot in the sixth round to secure a shocking knockout win.
A dazed Munguia managed to stand, but was clearly still off-balance as the referee reached the end of his 10-count. The bout was officially waved off at the 2:36 mark of Round 6.

Munguia was a -2500 favorite on most sportsbooks and those odds appeared to be spot on early. In Round 2, Munguia blasted Surace with a lightning-fast left that nearly sent Surace tumbling through the ropes. However, the undefeated Frenchman answered the count, setting the stage for the later drama.

In Round 6, Surace unleashed the haymaker of his life and caught Munguia clean. Munguia fell back hard and when he was unable to sufficiently answer the count, Surace was awarded with just the fifth knockout win of his career.
Two fights ago, Munguia went the distance with boxing star Canelo Alvarez in a super middleweight title bout. He now loses for the second time in seven months and faces plenty of uncertainty heading into 2025.
