After a nearly four-month long feud, Kevin Owens and Rhodes will engage in their third battle together for the Undisputed WWE Championship in a Ladder Match. Before Owens turned on "The American Nightmare" after Bad Blood last October, both men fought for the title at Bash in Berlin, with Rhodes barely escaping with the victory. In December, Owens lost to Rhodes again at Saturday Night's Main Event, and this time KO did not hold back from using nefarious methods in order to win the match. However, it would quickly backfire on Owens when he was hit with a Cross Rhodes on a steel chair, which led to another loss.
Heading into the Royal Rumble, Owens has claimed he is the true Undisputed WWE Champion due to Rhodes using the steel chair on Saturday Night's Main Event, and since has been carrying the Winged Eagle Championship to prove he deserves the title. Whether Owens is finally able to defeat Rhodes on Saturday will possibly hinge on the involvement of Sami Zayn, who KO is expecting assistance from because of their longtime friendship.
Elsewhere, DIY and the Motor City Machine Guns will clash over the WWE Tag Team Championship for the third time in the last two months. Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano stole the titles from Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin last December when they executed a heel turn on them during the match. Since then, the Guns have been aiming get their revenge on DIY, and have earned the opportunity to recapture the titles in a 2-Out-Of-3-Falls Match this weekend. It remains to be seen if Ciampa and Gargano will cheat their way into another victory, or if Shelley and Sabin will become two-time WWE Tag Team Champions.
