Renato Moicano will be fighting for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 311.
With Arman Tsaruykyan out with an injury, Moicano will jump in the UFC 311 main event on short notice against Islam Makhachev for the UFC belt at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, Calif., on Saturday night.
Moicano made championship weight at UFC 311 weigh-ins Friday morning to make him eligible for the short-notice fight against Makhachev.
Moicano, who was scheduled to face Beneil Dariush on the UFC 311 pay-per-view main card, will have a gigantic step up in competition against Makhachev. Makhachev has reeled off 14 straight victories in the UFC and will be attempting a fourth straight historic title defense in the division.
Moicano has won four straight fights, including a second-round TKO of Benoit Saint Denis in his last fight this past September.
Dariush will not compete at UFC 311 with Moicano’s move to the UFC main event.
“We’ll take care of Beneil. We’ll get it figured out,” said Dana White on the UFC 311 weigh-in TV show.
