This is the UFC 307 live blog for Raquel Pennington vs. Julianna Peña, the bantamweight title fight co-main event this Saturday in Salt Lake City.
A staple of the women’s bantamweight division since entering the UFC off of The Ultimate Fighter in 2013, the book on Pennington for much of her career was falling short against the very best opposition she faced. That all changed in 2020 though as Pennington started the six-fight unbeaten streak she’s currently on, which includes winning the vacant bantamweight title over Mayra Bueno Silva at UFC 297. Now Pennington makes the first defense of her belt against her longtime rival from the TUF house.
Peña, the winner of season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter, is best known for authoring one of the greatest upsets in UFC history when she ended the reign of Amanda Nunes with a shocking submission win at UFC 269. Peña then dropped the bantamweight title in their rematch six months later and has been on the shelf since then due to injury, but “The Venezuelan Vixen” hopes to reclaim UFC gold in her first fight in nearly two years.
